Just Cook'n

Next stop was Mount Cook, one of the highest peaks in New Zealand and home to glaciers.  I wanted to get close by nightfall and drove into a close small town.  I went to hotel and it was awful, so I drove to the next town and found a nicer hotel.

The only problem was they were sold out.  This was around 9PM and there was no other place to go.  The lady behind the desk told me that there were some rooms where the workers stayed.  It used to be an old motel.  The room was pretty awful and cold but it was that or stay in my car.  So for $60 NZ, or about $45 US, I stayed there.  It was probably worth about $25 so, I over paid.

The next stop was Mt. Cook, which I believe when you see all the travel photos of snow cap peaks it is Mt. Cook.  It really was spectacular.  I hiked a bit to a view of a lake with glaciers still in it.  I bumped into a few Israeli hikers.  From the view you can see a small boat that gave tours of the glaciers.  I regret not doing it, I really didn't know about.  Any way, lots of photo opportunities.
If you blow up the left pic you can see the rock in the lake is actually a glacier and in the foregrounf is a small turquoise lake.
